Community Games still seeking officers

Now that we have all recovered from the Christmas festive season and seen in the new year, its time to turn our attention once again to our new season.

If your Area has not held its annual general meeting, it's time to think about it in earnest and get registered and set up for the busy months ahead. Any help that the county committee can give, please do not hesitate to call.

The Games Director, James Moran, has been keeping himself busy booking dates and venues for the upcoming activities. He still needs venues and a number of co-ordinators. If you can help out in any way, please give him a call.

The county officers, small in number, cannot be expected to undertake the running of all events. Following on from the county annual general meeting, a number of positions are still unfilled. There is no County Chairperson, no Vice-Chairperson and no Youth Officer.

If there is anyone in your Area who would be interested in coming on board, please forward their name to the county Secretary. Please ensure that you get their permission to do so before forwarding the name.

A Children's Officer will also need to be appointed and names in this case should also be forwarded to the county Secretary. Members are also needed for the appeals committee and again names would be most welcome.

These positions need to be filled in order for Wexford Community Games to stay strong and carry out the busy calendar of events for the children in our care.

County Secretary John Carr will act as Leinster Vice-Chairperson for the coming season, having retained his position at the recent annual general meeting.

Outgoing Leinster appeals committee member, Anne Cowman, will also serve another year. The new committee and delegates will meet in early February to discuss and plan for the year ahead.

Sixteen new events will have to be incorporated into the calendar of events. At the first meeting of the Leinster Games the dates for the first and second rounds of the team events will be made. Kildare will host the Leinster semis and finals in Newbridge on July 4-5.

The following dates and venues have been provisionally booked:

Draughts in Bree Hall on Saturday, January 31. Registration at 5.30 p.m. and games under way at 6 p.m.

Chess in Bellefield (Enniscorthy Hurling and Football Club). Registration at 6.30 p.m. and start time is 7 p.m.

Badminton in Taghmon Community Centre, possibly on Saturday, February 7, or Saturday, February 14, at 10am.

Art and handwriting in Castlebridge National School on Saturday, March 7 (not confirmed) or Saturday, March 14.

There is no co-ordinator for the table-tennis, and how and where the cross-country will be run is being looked into. Co-ordinators are also being sought for futsal, basketball, model-making and hardcourt tennis, as well as projects, outdoor soccer and tag rugby.

Please note that an event will not be run without a co-ordinator, so the county committee members are seeking your help in the efficient running of the 2015 calendar of events.

As well as those already in existence. a number of new events have been added to the programme. They are as follows: Under-16 mixed draughts; Under-13 chess (Under-12 is deleted); girls' Under-16 and boys' Under-16 table-tennis; girls' Under-15 and boys' Under-15 futsal; girls' Under-14 Gaelic football; girls' Under-12 and boys' Under-12 handwriting; Under-13 and Under-16 mixed hardcourt tennis; girls' Under-16 and boys' Under-16 handball; girls' Under-16 and boys' Under-16 basketball; girls' Under-16 200m and boys' Under-16 200m; solo dance, singing, music and recitation; group dance, Irish contemporary, drama/comedy, group music and group singing.
