Double for Doyle at Enniscorthy
There was a fantastic turn-out on Thursday for the Wexford G.A.A. Supporters' event, and the weather played its part for a change as it was a beautiful evening and a most enjoyable night was had by all.
Hopefully the weather will behave again this Thursday as the annual Pettitt's night will be staged and another huge crowd is expected. It is the place to be for a fun and enjoyable night out for all the family.
Gorey owner Thomas Doyle had a very good night on track as his pair, Mango Lad and Mango Ear, scored in races three and five.
Mango Lad was an impressive winner, racing home a clear six and a half lengths ahead of the field in a good 28.98, while Mango Ear led in his race and just held the strong late finish of reserve Tomorrows Seán by the minimum distance, a short head.
Mango Mars was favourite to make it a treble in race seven for Tommy and trainer John Kavanagh. However, trap four runner Elite Taylor got to the front off the second bend and although Mango tried hard to close on Elite, she was not for catching as she stayed on very strongly to score impressively in a fast time of 28.84 for owner and trainer Patrick Roban (Enniscorthy).
Race of the night was race eight, an A1. We were treated to a great battle between two old warriors as Station Panther (January '12) and Skyview Blue (August '11) went neck and neck from the second bend, and it was only in the last 20 yards the staying power of Station Panther just won the day by a neck from the gallant Skyview in a best of the night time of 28.82.
These two dogs have been in the first three 103 times from 139 runs, and both dogs are a credit to their owners and trainers.
Race six saw Brackenstone Ned score his seventh race win when tracking favourite Vaz Te into the home straight before staying on the better to go on to score in a good 29.04 for owners James Mythen and Denis Leacy, Castlebridge.
The Monday night feature race was the final of the Track Bar Unraced Stake, and the Nora Dobbs-owned Liverpool Boy ran out a good winner, recording his second win from three starts. His winning time of 29.12 is his quickest run and more improvement can be expected.
