Emmet gains gold in backstroke

Gold and silver medal winner Emmet Cousins from Coolcotts

Congratulations to Emmet Cousins (10) who represented Scoil Mhuire (Coolcotts) at the Leinster Minor schools swimming championships at the N.A.C., Dublin, recently.

Emmet took gold in the 50m backstroke in a new personal best time of 37.96 seconds, and silver in the 100m individual medley.

Emmet also qualified for the Irish Minor schools swimming championships in February.

Emmet is a member of Wexford Swimming Club, and Wexford Pool and Surf Lifesaving Club, and was also selected this year along with his older brother, Dillon, for the Leinster swimming skills academy squad.

Top-class racing

As expected, the semi-finals of the Red Mills Future Champion Unraced Stake produced top-class racing at Enniscorthy Dog Track.

Enniscorthy in Junior Cup exit

For the neutral this was as good an All-Ireland Cup match as you could get, with plenty of thrills and spills and seven tries in all.

Gorey defeated up north

The All-Ireland Junior Cup saw Gorey travel north to take on Instonians in the first round on Saturday. In a game played with a strong wind blowing down the pitch, Gorey lost out on a score of 22-16.
