Golf club notes

WEXFORD LADIES

Monday, March 16, Senior 14-hole stableford competition: 1, Denise Dunne (26), 31 points; 2, Carmel Murphy (8), 26 points (back seven); 3, Martina Foley (34), 26 points; 4, Bridget O'Neill (28), 25 points (back seven). Well done ladies.

Thursday, March 19, 18-hole three-person waltz competition sponsored by Sam McCauley Chemists: 1, Sally O'Neill (20), Ursula Carey (29), Wendy Tiernan (21), 81 points; 2, Tara Dunne (8), Sheila Richardson (8), Eileen Kent (24), 78 points; 3, Kitty Roche (29), Barbara Mantripp (25), Mary Fallon (30), 76 points (back nine); nearest the pin, Geraldine Broaders, 5 ft.

A total of 60 ladies played in this competition. Congratulations to our prize-winners and many thanks to Sam McCauley Chemists for their beautiful prizes.

Our bridge fundraiser for teams is being held in the clubhouse on Wednesday, March 25, at 10 a.m. sharp.

The cost is €5 which includes tea/coffee, so please come along and support.

Best of luck to our Intermediate Cup team which plays Dunmore East in Waterford Golf Club on Friday, March 27, at 1.24 p.m. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Mary O'Connor, a qualified yoga instructor, is commencing yoga classes in the club. If you are interested in joining please put your name on the sheet in the ladies' locker room.

Our garden angels need help! They do a tremendous amount of work, and all the lovely spring blooms around the course are the result of their hard work. If you can help please contact Martina Dempsey.

Reminders to have your entry in for the J.J. Devereux matchplay competition by Thursday, April 9. Details are on the noticeboard in the ladies' locker room.

The Thursday, March 26, the 18-hole stableford competition is sponsored by VW Wexford.

The presentation of prizes will take place on Thursday, April 2.

ROSSLARE

The first 18-hole competition (singles) was played in Rosslare on Sunday.

After the luxury of playing a shortened course for the winter months, it was a shock to the system to go back to the very back tees.

Scoring was very difficult, resulting in a C.S.S. of 33 points with all five prize-winners playing off single figures.

The winner with 37 points was Ray Roche. Ray (8), was six over par after seven holes.

He played the remaining eleven holes in one over par, which included a birdie three at the 13th.

In second position, also playing off 8, was Aedan Jameson who had two steady halves of 18 points.

One of our promising young players, Jack McGarry (4), was third on 35 points.

Gary Collins, the top golfer in the club, playing off +3, had birdies at the third, seventh, 13th and 18th to win the gross on three under par.

Martin Flynn (9) had a great start of 4, 3, 4 to win the veteran's prize with 36 points.

Saturday, March 14, fourball, 18 holes: 1, Liam MacNamara (3) and Colin Curtis (11), 44 points; 2, Brendan Rossiter (4) and Nathan O'Brien (9), 42 points.

Tuesday, March 17, team event (16 holes): 1, Bob Quilty (9), Eddie Fortune (12), Ken Martin (14) and P.J. The first inter-club match takes place on Friday when Rosslare host Bunclody in the J.B. Carr. Best of luck to the team members and their mentors, and we hope they make a winning start.

Don't forget to enter your team for the Burrow course event.

Teams of four cost €50 per player, which includes five rounds of golf.

Wexford Golf Club Garden Angels are seeking helpers. Our Garden Angels are looking for some extra hands to help out with light weeding and general care of the shrubbery and flowers on the course.

Congratulations to Pat Geoghegan (15) for winning the weekly € 50 in the Find the Joker draw. The jackpot for next week stands at €1,747.

The Joker draw is open to members and visitors and takes place every Sunday at 8 p.m. in the clubhouse. The next draw will take place on Sunday, March 29.
