Good Ability produces fine run

A very good card was on offer at Enniscorthy Dog Track last Monday featuring the semi-finals of the Storm Control Unraced Stake.

It attracted a very good attendance again, and it was a night of shocks. A brilliant run by Good Ability in race seven made for a very interesting night's racing. The Monbeg bandwagon continued also as this excellent litter had two winners.

March 21 results - race one, Welcome To Enniscorthy A5/A6 525: 1, Brackenstone Dai (owners, Rita Mythen and Seán Corrigan, Castlebridge), 29.38; 2, Legacy Boy, 29.59.

Legacy got to the lead by the first bend and led off the second, however, Brackenstone was moving up nicely on the outside and was clever moving inside the leader off the last bend to go on to score a comfortable win.

Race two, The Racing Easter Sunday First Race 6pm A4 525: 1, Rookery Breeze (owners, Pat Hancock (agent) and Philip Fennelly; trainer, David Morris, Enniscorthy), 29.13; 2, Lord Diamond, 29.79.

Rookery, only having his second race, showed he has future potential as he won by a wide margin, although flattered a bit by some major crowding at the third bend by a number of rivals. Nonetheless, it was a nice effort for only his second start.

Race three, The Slaneyside Greyhound Supplies A3 525 semi-final: 1, Tomahurra Sonic (owner, Evan Kehoe, Enniscorthy), 29.05; 2, Kereight Splat, 29.19.

The sponsor's charge here, Tomahurra, showed the way and battled on well to hold the persistent effort of the runner-up.

Race four, The Slaneyside Greyhound Supplies A3 525 semi-final: 1, Ballinamona Star (owner, Ella McCann, Gorey), 29.04; 2, Jills Jaguar, 29.14.

Ballinamona hit winning form in her last race and continued her wide running berth all the way to stay clear of crowding. She ran out a good winner from reserve Jills Jaguar, and her wide running tactics could well pay off again in this week's final.

Race five, The Storm Control @Stud Open Unraced 525 semi-final: 1, Monbeg Costa (owners, Eamon and Gearóid Doyle, Enniscorthy), 28.95; 2, Tagalong Hawkeye, 29.16.

Monbeg took a good bang after leaving traps but it made little difference as he went to the front and ran on well to score a snug win. Tagalong, a big 87-pounder, is running well and grabbed the runner-up spot.

Race six, The Storm Control @Stud Open Unraced 525 semi-final: 1, Bonzo The Brave (owners, Neil Frazer and J.P. Clements, Chelmsford, England; trainer, Eamonn Moore, Barntown), 29.13; 2, Nice Girl, 29.48.

Bonzo got out well from his favourable trap three draw and led to leave mayhem behind him and score a clear win from outsider Nice Girl. The two Paul Hennessy trained entrants were eliminated from this heat.

Race seven, The Track Bar A2 525 semi-final: 1, Good Ability (owner, Robert F. Bennett, England; trainer, Nick Turner, Barntown), 28.65; 2, Whitefort Miley, 29.10.

The winner showed what his name suggested, recording a flying 3.15 split. This race was over before they even got to the first bend as Good Ability went away to score by a wide margin in a superb time.

Race eight, The Track Bar A2 525 semi-final: 1, Elite Sammy (owner, Patrick Roban, Enniscorthy), 29.05; 2, Bees Honey, 29.12.

Elite is another one of the fine litter including the Monbeg runners, and was good enough here to get the win by a length to send favourite backers home a bit happier.
