Locals hoping for Leinster Oaks win

The gain Leinster Oaks final will take centre stage this Thursday and there is good local representation to try to keep the prize in Wexford.

The Oliver 'Hopper' McGrath (Castlebridge)-owned Willmount Jewell returned to her best form when getting out well to lead in her semi-final last week, and she battled on strongly to score her 14th race win in a good 29.09. The David Morris-trained Critical Casie finished well to get second two lengths adrift.

The other semi went to the midlands trainer Tommy Bolton who had the one-two when Cromwellian Kid got out well from her trap five draw to lead and comfortably held her kennel mate, the running on Coonoughkerrylas, in a fast 28.89.

The trap draw has worked out well for both local runners, Willmount and Critical, and they should make a bold bid to keep the €2,500 prize local.

The final line-up is as follows: trap one, Cromwellian Kid; trap two, Willmount Jewell; trap three, Kildallon Jessie; trap four, Coonoughkerrylas; trap five, Critical Casie; trap six, Tanners Eirke.

Some other very good performances were witnessed during the night, including from the John Doyle-owned Kitrea Rachel who was a very clear winner of race four and looks another good staying type for John.

The Brian Madigan-trained Dromana Scampi is on the upgrade and won well in race eight, while the last race also saw a cracking run from the Chris Ryan-owned Sunfire Cosmic who has really hit form in recent weeks and was an impressive winner of this hot A0/1 575.
