Monbeg Costa looking sharp

Extra racing Easter Sunday

Another good crowd turned out for the second round of the Storm Control At Stud Unraced Stake.

Some very good performances and exciting finishes were witnessed, with Monbeg Costa and Mickeys Lass catching the eye with a couple of star-studded performances.

The Slaneyside Greyhound Supplies A3 Stake is also under way and it looks very competitive on the evidence of the first round. There will be an extra night's racing on Easter Sunday featuring several finals, and a great night of action is expected.

March 14 results - race one, The Slaneyside Greyhound Supplies A3 525, round one, heat one: 1, Gymstar Bugatti (owner, Tommy Mahoney, Barntown), 28.83; 2, Kereight Splat, 29.11.

Tomahurra Sonic set the early gallop here but Gymstar put in a good finish, staying on strongly to score convincingly by four lengths.

Race two, heat two: 1, Ballinamona Star (owner, Ella McCann, Gorey), 29.06; 2, Barro Barney, 29.34.

Ballinamona was not winning out of turn when getting a nice run off the second bend, leaving some barging behind her to go on to score by four lengths.

Race three, The FFK Sires A5 525: 1, Metric Bluey (owner, Pauline Byrne, Marshalstown), 29.33; 2, Bisto Brett, 29.54.

Metric led and ran out a comfortable winner to get off the mark at the fourth attempt.

Race four, The Storm Control @Stud Open Unraced 525, round two, heat one: 1, Mikeys Lass (owner, Michael Whelan, Enniscorthy), 28.76; 2, Bonzo The Brave, 29.00.

As stated last week, there was a lot more to come from this lady and she got her break right this time and was impressive in winning in a good time, always holding the runner-up's challenge.

Race five, The Storm Control @Stud Open Unraced 525, round two, heat two: 1, Piercestown Air (owners, Seamus Whelan and Niamh Murphy, Piercestown), 29.45; 2, St Mullins Daisy, 29.46.

This was a troublesome race but Piercestown came wide up the straight to get up to beat the runner-up in a close finish as five runners dashed to the line within a length and a half and a head.

Race six, The Storm Control @Stud Open Unraced 525, round two, heat three: 1, Tagalong Hawkeye (owner, Dermot Flynn, Enniscorthy), 29.15; 2, Forest Harris, 29.16.

There was a shock result in this hat as hot favourite Forest Harris took the lead off the second bend to go a few lengths clear. It was taken he would win, however, Tagalong had other ideas and came home well to grab the win on the line.

Race seven, The Storm Control @Stud Open Unraced 525, round two, heat four: 1, Monbeg Costa (owners, Eamon and Gearóid Doyle, Enniscorthy), 28.74; 2, Stopthislad, 29.47.

Monbeg was most impressive and looks the one to beat in this stake as he raced right away to score by a wide margin.

Race eight, heat three: 1, My Céilí (owner, Paula Dempsey, Enniscorthy), 29.08; 2, Metric Sandy, 29.43.

Race nine, heat four: 1, Whitefort Mickey (owner, Ursula Neville, Co. Wexford), 29.32; 2, Ballinaboola Ace, 29.34.

Whitefort went up well and made his trap one draw pay as he held his rails position and went on to hold the strong-finishing Ballinaboola to record his sixth race win.

March 17 results - race one, Welcome To Enniscorthy A5/A6 525: 1, Ballina Rich (owner, Denis Leacy, Co. Wexford), 29.29; 2, Kiltrea Clodagh, 29.30.

Race two, The J.S.C Open Unraced 525, round one, heat one: 1, Fairly Sweet (owner, Margaret Kelly, Ballymitty), 29.25; 2, Liberty Boy, 29.53.

Race three, round one, heat two: 1, Kingsmill Model (owner, Kathleen Roche, Barntown), 29.65; 2, Metric Lilly, 29.79.

Race four, round one, heat three: 1, Monbeg Oscar (owner, Eamon Doyle, Monbeg), 28.86; 2, Ruby Be Slick, 29.35.

Race five, round one, heat four: 1, Alien Ship (owner, Laurence Byrne, Gorey), 29.34; 2, Almost Blazing, 29.62.

Race six, The Sacred Heart Newbawn Buster Race A4 550: 1, Town Belle (owner, Seán Dooley, Co. Carlow), 31.00; 2, Rushwee Maestro, 31.14.

Race seven, The Easter Sunday A5/A6 600 semi-final: 1, Cosy Flyer (owner, Patrick Mullett, Co. Carlow), 33.85; 2, Bruces Lee, 33.87.

Race eight, The Easter Sunday A5/A6 600 semi-final: 1, Allthatsmine (owner, Michael Donohoe, Enniscorthy), 33.75; 2, Tip Top Maddie, 33.80.

Race nine, March A2 575: 1, Station Panther (owner, Liam Kelly, Co. Kilkenny; trainer, William Finn, Waterford), 31.47; 2, Sunfire Cosmic, 31.96.
