Rocky Dee rockets home

A decent crowd turned out at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track despite the bad weather on Monday night of last week where two lots of semi-finals of unraced stakes were on offer, but the novices were finding it hard going as times reflected this.

The young Rocky Dee Rocket showed he was made of stout stuff when battling home to take the first semi of the Dawson's Bar Unraced Stake, holding the strong challenge of Share A Secret by a short head to maintain his unbeaten record in a time of 29.42.

The second semi went to Telex Cracker who went up well to lead and scored nicely in 29.71.

The other Unraced Stake sponsored by M.R.C. Electrical saw Vinegarhill Ruby lead up in the first semi but having to battle hard to get the better of strong challenger Our Little Dolly who made her move between the lower bends, only to find Vinegarhill too strong close to home by two lengths in a time of 29.63.

The second semi was a very close call, so close it ended in a dead heat between favourite Ballina Lil and Mama Mermaid. And with only a neck and a head between the first four home as they flashed over the line, it shows how competitive a race it turned out to be. The winning time was 29.96.

The fastest run of the night was in race ten as Whitefort Mikey recorded his fourth straight win on the bounce in convincing fashion when getting away well from his trap three box. He was always in control after that, and his time of 29.11 was a good run.

There's only a couple of nights left before Christmas, and don't forget the end-of-year party night is Monday, December 21 - always a very enjoyable occasion.
