Rodney claims some big scalps

RODNEY GOGGINS from from Wexford turned in another superb performance when he beat a string of top players including the world number two, Judd Trump from England, by five frames to two in the World 6 Red Championship in Thailand last week.

Earlier the Republic of Ireland number one had beaten the world number 15, Barry Hawkins, 5-3 and leading amateur Mohammed Khairy from Egypt, 5-1. He also beat ex-pro Issara Kachaiwong from Thailand 5-4 and he won his final group match against Nick Jennings from England 5-1.

The Irish number one impressed everyone in Thailand with his superb matchplay to win his group and he was seeded number two for the knockout rounds, but unfortunately Rodney was beaten in the last 32 by Panompai Powises from Thailand who then reached the quarter-finals, losing to the eventual winner, Mark Davis from England.

Rodney would like to thank the 147 Club in Wexford for their continued support providing free practice facilities and to his coach, P.J. Nolan, who is formerly from New Ross for his support and guidance.
