Rodney lines up the reds in Egypt

Rodney Goggins from Wexford town is among the players and officials who will fly to Egypt to represent the Republic Of Ireland Billiards and Snooker Association in the 2015 World Men, Women and Masters I.B.S.F. Snooker Championships in Hurghada.

R.I.B.S.A. held two training camps in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow to help the players prepare under the guidance of national coach P.J. Nolan who hails from New Ross.

Rodney is one of four Senior players on the trip along with Brendan O'Donoghue from Nenagh, the current national champion, and Cork duo Greg Casey and David Cassidy.

The Masters players in action are Colm Gilcrest from Navan, the national champion, Tom O'Driscoll (Waterford), Anthony Bonnar (Letterkenny) and Alen Matic (Dublin).

P.J. Nolan is the team coach and the R.I.B.S.A. delegate is the organisation's Chairman, Jim Leacy from Carlow.

The event will be played in groups and then in knockout format to find the champion, and the winner will follow in the footsteps of the great Ken Doherty who won the title back in 1989.
