Simulator 'raceday' on Sunday

THIS SUNDAY sees the first-ever simulator 'Raceday' to be held by the Wexford Motor Club at the Riverbank House Hotel. This is a new venture for the club, and is seen purely as an opportunity to let fans of motorsport from around the area come together and have a great day's craic!

The event will run the same as a Rallycross event would run, with there initially being heats and the qualifiers from these heats moving on to compete in the various finals.

With the simulator able to take six people at one time, this in turn means six people will race head-to-head in each race. There will be both tarmac and loose surface on the track so the racing is sure to be highly entertaining and very close.

With the day aimed at being a family day out, there are various categories people can enter. First there is the Under-14s, 1418 year-olds, Over-18s who have never held a competition licence, Over-18s who hold or who have held a competition licence, a ladies' award and a team award. The team award will be where six people can form a team, and the team with the highest score on the day will win an award.

The entry fee for the event is just €10, with this being reduced to €5 from Under-14 year-old entrants and Wexford Motor Club members.

Sign-on will start for the event from 9 a.m. and finish at 11 a.m. After this, the event manager, Wayne Douglas, who is also a former Irish racing champion, will give a briefing on how the event will run, how the results will be calculated and then a practice, which is likely to be very entertaining to watch!

This will all bring us up to 1 p.m. where we will break for lunch which will give everyone there a chance to nip downstairs and avail of the special offers on meals which the Riverbank House Hotel will be laying on for the day.

At 2 p.m., the racing will start in earnest, with the heats very quickly showing up those who can talk the talk, but can't walk the walk!

After the heats, it will bring us all the way up to the final and indeed to the main event of the day, the Supercar final which will see the six fastest contestants take to the track in the most powerful cars available on the game where they will battle it out to become raceday champion.

This really is going to be a great day's craic for all who attend, where aside from the racing there will be stalls from various vendors with all sorts of motorsport merchandise on sale from jackets and hats to photos, rally calendars, DVDs and much, much more.

For anyone wanting further details on the raceday, please take a look on our club website - m/ - or contact our club mobile phone on 087-9974151 where you can download the entry forms and event regulations. Please arrive early on the day as with the high level of interest already in the event, a maximum number of entries may be placed so all competitors get a sufficient amount of time on the simulator. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
