Treble for Turner and one more for good measure

It was a very good week for Barntown trainer Nick Turner who recorded a fine treble on Monday night and picked up another good winner on Thursday night.

The first winner came when his own Jeneth took race four. She put her good early gears to good use to lead and held on well.

Paddock Sky has been knocking on the door of late and she made no mistake, taking race five by a wide margin in a best of the night 29.20.

Race seven saw Glynncross Maya take up the running by the third bend and she ran on well to record her third race win.

The four first round heats of the A5/6 six hundred stake got under way on Thursday night and the Turner-trained Willies Anto pushed back the years as this July '10 veteran recorded his 17th career win when taking heat one in the fastest of the four heats (33.15).

Race eight saw Seamus 'Shanks' Whelan continue his great run of late also as his Piercestown Club recorded the best of the night 28.83 when bombing out of his trap five box to score an impressive win in the end, but not before repelling the persistent effort of Kiltrea Luke whose turn will come soon on this form as they finished a long way clear of the rest of the runners.

A good sprint got proceedings under way and the John Murray (Piercestown)-owned Cougar Classic recorded his fifth win from eleven starts when swooping around the outside to lead into the straight and run home a clear two lengths winner in a good 19.12.

The second round of the Superior Product Unraced Stake will be the highlight next Monday and some very nice prospects are going head to head, so it's not to be missed.

'Shanks' Whelan also recorded doubles at Enniscorthy and Shelbourne Park on Thursday week.

The feature race at Enniscorthy was the Con and Anne Kirby Memorial Trial Stake, and Piercestown Away ran out a comfortable winner in the end.

Trap three runner Tip Top Ozil led the way early on, however Piercestown proved two and a half lengths too strong by the time they hit the line.

The next race completed the double when Piercestown Jane was far too good for her field in race six and ran out an easy winner in the best time of the night (29.08).

Up in Shebourne things were also going very well. First Piercestown Mick came home strongly to grab the money in the last strides in race six before Piercestown Lucy produced another fine effort in race eleven.

From her favourite trap one box, she duly recorded her 15th race win in the best of the night, a very fast 28.52 for owner Thomas Coleman (Piercestown) to round off a night to remember.

Another Wexford owner also scored a nice win in Shelbourne when the Brendan Frayne (Wexford town)-owned Sheepskin Wonder got the verdict on the line in race ten.

After being on the wrong side of the photo the previous week, the victor was due a win.

Saturday week saw a good win at Waterford track for Barntown trainer Nick Turner and Wexford owner Denise Whelan when Kacys Blu recorded his 20th career success when taking the €1,000 Waterford Business Group A4 final.
