Tullow Tank will be celebrity Kia guest

Seen and Heard

Leinster rugby star Seán O'Brien will be the star guest at the Wexford Car Centre Kia showroom on Thursday, June 25. The 'Tullow Tank' is currently a brand ambassador for Kia and he will be visiting to celebrate the showroom's first birthday.

There will be an open evening at the venue from 5 to 8 p.m. where O'Brien will be meeting his fans, posing for photographs and signing autographs. Lots of Kia goodies will be given away and there will be competitions for some great rugby prizes. There will also be delicious free food and refreshments.

Niall Murphy, Kia Brand Manager, said 'we are thrilled that Seán O'Brien is able to take some time out of his hectic schedule to help celebrate our first birthday. It has been an amazing first year with Kia here at Wexford Car Centre.

'As a massive rugby fan I'm personally looking forward to meeting Seán and hopefully getting some inside information for the Rugby World Cup in September and October.'

The free event is open to absolutely everyone, and the team at Wexford Car Centre Kia would love to see you, your family and friends call in for what promises to be a great family-friendly evening, especially for rugby fans in the south-east.

More parks tennis

Wexford Parks tennis is offering children from the ages of 10-16 a chance to play more matches this year.

The normal one hour per day camp is being extended to one and a half hours , to allow children play more matches, with team matches of singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

Fees will increase from €30 to €45 for one and a half hours per day for four weeks. The children Under-9 will continue in the first hour each day for €30.

The extra half hour per day will give time for all the children to do what they want to do most of all, and that is play matches. All matches will be short fun games of three to five points, or games. Children will be divided by age and skill levels to match up abilities. The aim is to keep the games short and fun, and you can't win or lose by too much.

The first hour of each session will be as in previous years with instruction followed by fun games to improve ball skills and fitness. All Parks activities have a key ambition to teach tennis in a fun way, and of course to make new friends through tennis.

Registration is on Friday, June 26, at any of the 15 venues in Co. Wexford (see www.maxolparkstennislocationsWexford..

Please register in person and enquiries may be made to coaches at each venue. The programme starts Monday, June 29 (Monday-Friday) or (July 1 to 29, Wednesday to Wednesday).

Major equestrian event

A prize fund of €4,000 is on offer for the Horse Sport Ireland showjumping foal and eventing foal regional qualifier which will be hosted by Wexford Equestrian in Tomhaggard on July 12.

The top two eventing fillies and the top two colts will be selected for the final in Millstreet, Co. Cork where €10,000 will be up for grabs.

This qualifier will cover the region of Wexford, Tipperary, Carlow and Kilkenny, with entries due in before Monday, June 29, direct to Wexford equestrian on the entry from or online at

This region 2 qualifier will be part of the summer show for horses and ponies. The event will be held in the indoor arena at 5 p.m. where foals will be allowed loose to show movement with their led dams.

This is not a showing class; rather, it is to identify potential showjumping and potential eventing foals for the future. A catalogue will be produced with full breeding for spectators and judges .

This will be one of five regional championships to be held during July and August as part of this inaugural event being organised by Horse Sport Ireland.

The championship will have a very generous prize fund of €30,000 and will aim to identify, evaluate and reward breeders who have bred a foal that has the potential to be competitive at the highest international level in the disciplines of showjumping or eventing.
