Wexford's Dean Walsh will box Brett McGinty (Oakleaf) in the national elite welterweight final at the National Stadium this Friday night.

The St. Ibar's clubman has dominted his contests to date in his first championship at this weight division.

Now he has been installed as a firm favourite to take the title dominated by Ballagh boxer, Adam Nolan, over the past six championships.

In last Friday night's semi-final, Walsh was on top in the contest from the opening bell, winning each of his rounds convincingly.

Up against Tiernan Bradley (Sacred Heart), the experience of Walsh was very much to the forefront, with his clinical counter punching and strong right hand leaving his opponent in all kinds of trouble.

Now he can look forward to Friday night's challenge with a deal of confidence, and he will have the support of his club and county behind him.
