Who will win Future Champion Stake?

The final of the Red Mills Future Champion Unraced Stake is the main event this week, and a large crowd is expected to witness a potential champion of the future.

This comes after the shock exit of outright favourite Trade Biscuit who frankly was disappointing after getting a nudge coming out of traps.

He didn't really engage in the race after that and trailed in last.

His main market rival, Droopys Roddick, had no such problems. Tracking cleverly at the opening bends, he tracked leader Ballymac Galtee into the back straight and he loomed up full of running off the last bend to come away to score well in a fast 28.55 and maintain his unbeaten record of three from three.

Local dog Heliska Rubba ran on strongly to snatch second spot from Ballymac Galtee.

The second semi also went the way of the Droopys Prefix as Droopys Nine led up and had little difficulty scoring a clear win from Clubber Lang who ran on well from a totally unsuitable trap six box, while local runner Mulrankin Jack grabbed the last qualifying spot.

The winning time was 28.71.

The trap draw for the final makes for an interesting race. Clubber Lane in much better housed in trap one and could well lead, with Droopys Nine also one of the likely early pace-setters.

However, Droopys Roddick is well housed in trap two and likely to get a dream run up the inside. If so he will win but finals are never quite that simple, although that would be how I read it.

The Track Bookmakers' Champion Plate will also feature and both Thomas Buggy and Eilish McCann are doubly represented in this race.

Kilgraney Rocket was impressive in the first semi, scoring well in 28.84 for Thomas Buggy, while his Kilgraney Dubh ran a good second behind Ballygibbon Funk in the third semi in a time of 28.97.

Eilish McCann saw her Ballinclare Thea come through to score in the second semi in a good 28.96, while Ballinclare Zara overcame trouble and ran a good second behind Kilgraney in the first semi to book a spot in the decider too.

This has the making of a cracking final and it is expected that both big races will draw a big crowd to the popular Enniscorthy town venue.
