Ryan linked to vacant Waterford Senior hurling post
WEXFORD SENIOR football manager Jason Ryan could be on the move - back to his native Waterford.
Ryan, who has still to declare his intentions regarding remaining on for a fifth year in charge of the Model county footballers, has been closely linked with the vacant Waterford Senior hurling post.
While Ryan has been non-committal as to his Waterford intentions, those close to the scene in the Deise county believe that Ryan could be teaming up with former Kilkenny netminder, James McGarry, to take charge.
Ryan would take on the mantle of manager while McGarry would be the side's coach.
The only other names linked with the job are Kevin Ryan, now manager in Carlow and previously with Oulart-The Ballagh, and Michael Ryan, the former ladies' football manager.
Given that former inter-county player, Fergal Hartley, has pulled out of the race, this it seems leaves the Ryan-McGarry package clear favourites to take over at the helm of the Senior hurling side.
When Ryan's future was questioned at last Thursday night's Wexford County Board meeting, County Chairman, Ger Doyle, said he hoped to meet with him over the next five days.
But by then Ryan could be on his way to becoming the first Waterford native to manage his county hurling side since Tony Mansfield.
The De La Salle clubman took over as Wexford Senior football boss in 2008.
