Celtic move closer to retaining their crown

WEXFORD SOCCER kingpins New Ross Celtic will add another title to their growing collection if they earn a point against Courtown Hibs next weekend after proving much too strong for Ferns United on Sunday. The champions chalked up an impressive 5-0 win, with Seán Culleton grabbing a hattrick and Anthony O'Connor and Tommy Lee adding a goal apiece.

Shamrock Rovers earned the bragging rights after their derby clash with Ajax Athletic, running out convincing 3-0 winners with goals from Seán Wildes, Michael Dempsey and Eamonn O'Brien.

Leighton Gleeson was the star man for Courtown Hibs as they overcame Gorey Rangers 21. Rangers were on top in the first-half and deservedly took the lead through a Stephen Kinsella strike.

However, Courtown upped the ante after the break and hit the woodwork twice before Gleeson drew them level with a fine looping header on the hour.

Michael Kinsella then delivered a great ball and Gleeson outjumped the Rangers defence to head home his second. Eugene O'Brien had a chance to wrap up the points but his shot was too close to the goalkeeper.

Elsewhere, full-back Tony Power got the only goal of the game as Forth Celtic edged out Duncannon 1-0.
