Celtic upset the odds in Gorey town Cup derby

Gorey Celtic pulled off a stunning upset against Gorey Rangers in the last eight of the Wexford and District Schoolboys Under-12 Cup at the weekend. The Division 2 high-flyers beat Division 1 table-toppers Rangers 2-1 to move into the semi-final.

Celtic will meet St. Leonards in the last four after the Ballycullane boys edged out Ferns 3-2. In the other semi North End, who beat Adamstown 3-0, will face off against Division 2A side St. Joseph's who themselves beat higher-ranked opponents in Glynn Barntown.

In league Division 1, Bridge Rovers had an impressive win against Wexford Albion to move level on points with their opponents. Meanwhile, in Division 1A the title will come down to a straight fight between Forth Celtic (see above) and St. Cormac's who both won at the weekend.

A draw between Enniscorthy Town and All Blacks in Division 2 was a better result for the former. The Mayglass boys have drawn six of their nine games this season and trail leaders Town by five points. Also in that division, Shelburne got their first win of the season against New Ross Town.

Fastnet Rovers eased past Corach Ramblers 6-0 in Division 2A while Newpark beat New Ross Town 'B' in Division 3.

North End and Wexford Albion set up a huge town derby in the Under-14 Cup semi-final after both won their last eight clashes. United had a strong 4-1 win away to Gorey Rangers while Albion edged Shelburne 4-2.

Forth Celtic 'B' moved into the last four with a surprise success against Camolin. In the semis they will take on Ferns who sneaked past Kilmore 2-1.Gorey Rangers 'B' had a big win in Division 1A. The north county side moved six points clear at the summit after a 1-0 success against Wexford Albion 'B'. However, Taghmon's hopes of challenging them faded after they were held 1-1 by Bunclody.

Cloughbawn took advantage of Ferns being in cup action by beating Fethard 9-0 to move to the top of the table. Also in Division 2, Wexford Celtic beat St. Cormac's. There was better news for Kilmore whose main rivals in Division 2A, Rathnure, could only draw 1-1 with St. Joseph's.

In the Under-16 Cup round two, Gorey Rangers had a strong win against Curracloe (see opposite) while Bree United edged out Tombrack 2-1. In the lone quarter-final Moyne Rangers were a little too good for Glynn Barntown in a 4-2 success.

The top two in Division 1, Wexford Albion and Bunclody, both picked up the three points. Albion won 5-0 away to Camplie while Bunclody smashed six past St. Leonards. In Division 1A Gorey Rangers are one win away from the title following a 3-1 success versus second-placed Gorey Celtic.

Rosslare Rangers' serene progress towards the Division 2 title continued on Saturday morning with a 5-0 win away to Camolin. Meanwhile, in Division 2A the top two of Taghmon and Ferns stretched their advantage on the chasing pack with wins over Forth Celtic 'B' and Enniscorthy Town respectively.
