Chambers makes immediate impact

Seen and Heard - stories behind the scenes

Ex-Wexford F.C. netminder Corey Chambers has wasted no time in making a big impression in his new abode.

He flew out to George Mason University in August 1, and completed just over three weeks pre-season games and training. Corey impressed so much that he was installed in the starting position.

Their season opener in the Atlantic 10 conference was played on Friday, August 25, against Coastal Carolina who are ranked 19th in the country. Corey played the full match and was in outstanding form, providing the assist for the winning goal in a 2-1 victory.

Their second game was on Sunday, August 27, against American and once again Corey was superb in a 3-0 win, earning his first shut-out (clean sheet) in the process.

Last Monday he was awarded the Atlantic 10 Conference rookie player of the week and also the defensive player of the week.

The last year with Wexford Youths/Wexford F.C. has really stood to him, and he seems to have really hit the ground running in the U.S.A.
