Rovers rule as Youths lose in Sligo
WEXFORD YOUTHS' quest to break away from the SSE Airtricity Premier Division relegation zone continues after they shipped a heavy 4-1 defeat to an in-form Sligo Rovers side before 1,536 spectators in the rain-lashed Showgrounds on Saturday night, May 7.
Most of the damage was done in the first-half when the rampant home side raced into an unassailable 3-0 lead. Raffaele Cretaro opened their account in the 23rd minute, with Jordan Richards doubling the lead ten minutes later.
And there was further misery for Youths in the 43rd minute when Liam Martin blasted home the third to leave the locals very much in the driving seat.
An opportunist Danny Furlong goal in the 50th minute did offer some slight hope, but that was quickly extinguished and Rovers finished on a high when substitute Jaanai Gordon scored for the first time in a red and white jersey near the end.
Youths are on the road again on Tuesday, May 10, when they travel to face bottom side Longford Town in City Calling Stadium at 8 p.m.
