A MAGICAL finish that produced two goals in the closing four minutes of normal time saw a grandstand finish to this game as Wexford Youths snatched all three points from the jaws of defeat to keep themselves at the top of the pile overcoming a gallant Cabinteely FC side in this Aertricity Division 1 game played at Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night last.

The narrow victory with Gary Delaney's magnificent 89th minute header supplementing two Danny Furlong goals enabled the Youths to pull through a game that produced about everything during the course of its ninety odd minutes.

Having dominated the opening minutes of possession, the Youths were left smarting after fourteen minutes, when their title dreams took a severe jolt. The visitors centre-forward Peter Durrad raced on to a long ball through the centre, chased by the homesides central defenders, Willie Tyrrell and Gary Delaney. As he moved in on advancing keeper Graham Doyle, Tyrrell seemed to make contact from the behind with the centre-forward hitting the turf. Referee Andrew Mullally had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, but a worse nightmare scenario was to follow as Tyrrell was brandished a red card. When the dust settle, the visitors central midfield and captain, John McKeown drove the resulting penalty low and hard beyond the reach of the keeper, giving the visitors a shock 1-0 lead.

Having worked the ball through midfield, Danny Furlong was picked out to the right side of the area. The ace marksman showed why he is the league's leading scorer, when showing an excellent first touch to control the ball, he cut inside a few meters before unleashing a superb right footed shot across keeper Moran into the opposite corner of the net, making it 1-1.

Cabinteely in one of their few attacks, counter attacked to catch the homeside flat, leaving McKeown all the time in the world to pick his spot and rifle a twenty-five meter shot to the corner of the net past a helpless Doyle in the home goal, giving the visitors a shock 2-1 interval lead.

Four minutes from the end of normal time, keeper Moran lost possession, and Furlong was alert to the breaking ball, quickly turning around the recovering defender Byrne, to shoot to the corner of the net, making it 2-2.

But the drama was by no means over. With Paul Cahillane now in at midfield, the Youths went in search of a winning goal. They battled their way forward forcing a free kick out on the left in front of the clubhouse. Shane Dunne floated over an excellent ball to the far right of goal where Gary Delaney rose highest to steer a powerful header to the opposite corner of the net past a helpless Moran in the visitors goal, giving the homeside a dramatic 3-2 lead, as the crowd erupted.
