Youths Women target Europe
League fixtures disclosed
The Wexford Youths Women are currently in the middle of heavy preparations for their Champions League qualifying round campaign which will take them to Poland next month.
The action will begin on August 11 and they will face three matches against Gintra Universitetas of Lithuania, host club KKPK Medyk Konin, and Cardiff Met Ladies from Wales.
Raheny United progressed to the knockout stage last season, so hopes are high that the first-time National League champions from the south-east will follow suit as they embark on a big adventure.
And the Youths' programme for the 2015-'16 domestic season was fully mapped out last week with the release of fixtures for the Continental Tyres league and shield as well as cup and league cup dates.
A total of eight clubs will compete this time around, with the Youths guaranteed a couple of local derbies since Kilkenny United have joined the league and will play their home games in Buckley Park which was a men's League of Ireland venue in the not too distant past.
Raheny United have merged with Shelbourne and will now be known as Shelbourne Ladies, and they will continue to use Morton Stadium in Santry as their home ground.
In a slight change to the format, the season will open with a shield competition featuring two groups of four on the first weekend of September, with the league itself getting under way on October 11 and featuring 14 games up to and including the last round on Sunday, April 24.
The Youths will continue preparations for their trip to Poland with a friendly at home to Juniata College from the U.S.A. in Ferrycarrig Park on Wednesday at a time to be confirmed.
