Top thrower creates stir
KATHLYN FURLONG has been creating a stir in Junior athletics. She is a talented hammer thrower and is getting the results to prove it.
Recently she came second in the All-Ireland Schools athletics finals. She achieved this magnificent result by beating fancied opposition and seems set for a bright future in the sport.
She reached the All-Ireland finals by winning the Leinster title, throwing a career best (36.45m) in the Under-15 hammer, upsetting the form book.
Kathlyn is also a promising shot-putter, winning silver in the Leinster Under-14 finals.
The Ballyhogue native is a student in Coláiste Abbain, Adamstown. She is a member of D.M.P. Athletics Club, and is coached by John White.
