Under-21 mentors step aside after heavy defeat to Cats
THE WEXFORD Under-21 hurling selectors have stood down following the team's very disappointing display in losing to Kilkenny.
Manager Tony Dempsey, along with selectors Paul Dempsey, Tom Foley, Garry Laffan and Johnny Doyle, will not be in the frame to steer the side in 2013.
Having spent three years at the helm, Wexford made considerable progress in that period, reaching two provincial finals only to lose out on both occasions to Dublin. Last year they had a fine semi-final victory over Kilkenny but were unable to carry that form into the final which they lost to the Dubs in Wexford Park.
But last Wednesday evening's display when losing to Kilkenny must have been the most disappointing of their time in charge.
Much was expected of the side which had prepared well but after a promising start they were simply outhurled by the Cats who dominated three-quarters of the game. Wexford have time on their side before settling on a management team but it's known that they will seek out the best talent available even if it means looking outside the county.
